Under the title nature morte subsume works created in the years 1998-2000. From the arrangement to the object, the »objet trouve«, they attempt to animate the obsolete idea of vanitas with inherent notions of still life. Objects, paraphernalia, things that are simply there, act in their enigmatic, motionless thingness and attempt to portray themselves as tangible, visible and edible.
The essential impetus of this work is abstraction. By isolating themselves from their natural surroundings, the objects take on an autonomy apart from their familiar contexts. By means of the photographic technique of stratification und fluoroscopy, a new perspective on the depicted things emerges, whose physicality is questioned. The reduction to a few compositional elements arises from the need for order.
